Public WLAN services
The global WLAN equipment market grew around 70 % last year with revenues reaching $2.1 billion. An increasing fraction of companies in North America, Asia and Europe are using as an integral part of their office IT infrastructure. There is however an important difference between the success of WLAN in offices and home compared to the business opportunities presented by public WLAN in cafés, airports, hotels and other hotspots. Already today there exists a number of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) that exploit public WLAN service business models. The one thing they have in common is that none of them have been able to report profits from their WLAN business.
