Northstream has built considerable experience providing strategic advice to actors in the telecommunications industry. Our track record and strong understanding of the industry put us in a unique position to support our customers when facing complex challenges in different areas of the industry and during different evolution phases. Through global experience Northstream is familiar with the most diverse demographic, economic & geographic environments, and the resulting differences in the evolution and maturity of communication networks and services. In particular, Northstream’s dedicated and experienced team has extensive experience within:

Business strategy development and planning
  • Spectrum/Services licence bid strategy development and preparation
  • Market entry strategy development and execution
  • Market analysis and forecasting
Technology & product strategy evaluation
  • Technology selection & migration
  • Investment analysis support
Operational review, optimization and support
  • Commercial due diligence
  • Board or management assistance for M&A
Our experience in developing license applications spans over all geographical regions, where we have assisted operators in developing the strategy, business cases and complete applications for spectrum licenses in different frequency ranges and based on GSM, CDMA, WCDMA and WiMAX technologies, in auction and in “beauty contest” settings. Upon successful license award we have helped operators develop successful business strategies, set up operations, source equipment and launch services.

For network infrastructure and handset suppliers we frequently work as a “devil’s advocate”, challenging and refining technology and product strategies based on our solid understanding of the operator market and wide network of operator relationships throughout different markets. We also support equipment suppliers in refining their market communication and customer engagement approaches. In addition, we have supported suppliers in evaluation technology and service choices and strategies by analysing third-party business and end-user implications. Similarly, operators have benefited from our support in service development, ranging from market scenario analyses to product management.

Northstream also has a track record in supporting investors and financial institutions in analysing acquisition and investment targets, as well as supporting the development of post-investment strategies, in particular through critical analysis of the business plans, technology choices, upcoming investment scenarios and operational performance.

On a selected basis we also support operator and supplier organisations through continuous onsite management support, full-time or part-time, e.g. as a temporary solution while recruitment or re-organisation is ongoing.
