S&P Global – Push for scale, convergence and PE interest drives Nordics telecoms M&A

For Bengt Nordström, CEO of mobile industry consultancy Northstream, the market’s maturity combined with slower revenue growth adds a strain on operators, who are in need of network investment to meet the skyrocketing demand for data.

“When you have this much pressure on networks but revenues are not growing, that is pushing the market in a direction where you need scale in order to improve operational efficiencies,” he said. Nordström added that in an increasingly converged marketplace where operators are following the same playbook, scale can also improve branding and distribution opportunities and, thereby, acts as an important differentiator.
